The app needs a server.
Hoodik apps connect to a Hoodik server. That's where your encrypted files live, and it's yours either way. There are two ways to get one.
Self-host
Free
Run the server on hardware you already own: a home server, a Raspberry Pi, a NAS. One Docker container, about 10 minutes, and your storage limit is your disk.

Either way, files are encrypted on your device before upload and the server only ever stores ciphertext. You can move between the two whenever you want: a Hoodik Cloud export is a runnable self-hosted copy.
